| Penerangan CU | GMDSS/SSAS is an internationally agreed-upon set of safety procedures, types of equipment, and communication protocols used to increase safety and make it easier to rescue distressed ships, boats and aircraft. GMDSS/SSAS consists of several systems. The system is intended to perform the following functions; alerting (including position determination of the unit in distress), search and rescue coordination, locating (homing), maritime safety information broadcasts, general communications, and bridge-to-bridge communications. The system also provides redundant means of distress alerting, and emergency sources of power . Principally, GMDSS/SSAS consists of; Medium Frequency (MF) or High Frequency (HF) Antenna Unit, Tuner Unit, Main Unit and Power Supply Unit as well as their associated equipment. GMDSS/SSAS installation is fixing or semi-fixing of a complete GMDSS/ SSAS or a self-contained GMDSS/ SSAS Unit, with its accompanying assemblies, accessories and parts. GMDSS/SSAS installation also includes provision of or connection to services (such as power) or other associated equipment required to make the installed GMDSS/SSAS ready for operations . GMDSS/SSAS can be installed either on Static Platforms (Land-based and Off-shore) and Mobile Platforms. Preventive Maintenance is designed to preserve and restore GMDSS/SSAS reliability by replacing worn components before they actually fail. Preventive Maintenance activities include care and servicing for the purpose of maintaining GMDSS/SSAS Units as well as their associated equipment in satisfactory operating condition by providing for systematic check, detection, and correction of incipient failures either before they occur or before they develop into major defects. Preventive Maintenance include tests, measurements, adjustments, and parts replacement, performed specifically to prevent faults from occurring, partial or complete overhauls, oil changes, lubrication and so on at specified periods. In addition, persons can record equipment deterioration so they know to replace or repair worn parts before they cause system failure . Persons who are competent in this CU shall be able to install a complete GMDSS/SSAS as well as their associated equipment. He or She shall also be able to carry out Preventive Maintenance on GMDSS/SSAS Units as well as their associated equipment in accordance with Regulatory Bodies’ recommendations, OEM’s/Client’s requirements and Contractor’s SOP. The outcomes of this CU is persons that shall be able to provide excellent and quality installation and Preventive Maintenance of GMDSS/SSAS as well as their other associated equipment to ensure client’s satisfaction guaranteed and prompt actions are taken in accordance with Regulatory Bodies’ recommendations, OEM’s/Client’s requirements and Contractor’s SOP. |

| Objektif Pembelajaran | Persons who are competent in this CU shall be able to install a complete GMDSS/SSAS module as well as their associated equipment and carry out preventive maintenance on GMDSS/SSAS as well as their associated equipment. Upon completion of this CU, trainees will be able to:- · Set-up fixed/mobile GMDSS/SSAS installation. · Install fixed/mobile GMDSS/SSAS Cables. · Install fixed/mobile GMDSS/SSAS Power Supply Switches, Breakers and Outlets. · Install fixed/mobile GMDSS/SSAS Units Cabinets/Racks/Brackets. · Install fixed/mobile GMDSS/SSAS Units. · Perform fixed/mobile GMDSS/SSAS Units preventive maintenance. |
