Penerangan CUSewage secondary treatment process optimization is described an activity to improve the efficiency of biological removal of pollutants such as Temperature, pH, Oil & Grease (O&G), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Suspended Solids (SS), Ammoniacal Nitrogen (NH3-N), Nitrate Nitrogen (NO3-N), and Phosphorus (P).

The person who is competent in sewage secondary treatment optimization shall be able to gather sewage secondary treatment information, assess pre-conditioning measures of sewage (if required), assess anaerobic treatment process such as septic tank, Imhoff Tank and anaerobic digester optimization, assess facultative treatment process such as oxidation pond and facultative aerated lagoon optimization, assess denitrification treatment process optimization in anoxic tank, assess aerobic treatment process optimization, assess final effluent compliances and prepare sewage secondary treatment process optimization report.

The outcome of this competency is to ensure that the sewage secondary treatment process optimization has been achieved in accordance with best engineering practice whilst meeting the Malaysia Sewage Industrial Guidelines (MSIG) requirements. The beneficial impacts include minimizing operation and maintenance cost, increase profits, improve process output and reducing downtime.

Upon completion of this competency unit trainees will be able to: 1. Gather sewage secondary treatment information. 2. Assess pre-conditioning measures of sewage (if required). 3. Assess anaerobic treatment process such as septic tank, Imhoff Tank, and anaerobic digester optimization. 4. Assess facultative treatment process such as oxidation pond and facultative aerated lagoon optimization. 5. Assess denitrification treatment process optimization in anoxic tank. 6. Assess aerobic treatment process optimization. 7. Assess final effluent compliances. 8. Prepare sewage secondary treatment process optimization report.
